Star Grip Samples
Grips are expensive to ship because of their weight so I’ve got a minimum order of 6 on the Star Grips. I ordered a small batch of black sidewinders, midsize tour wrap, and tour wrap styles if you’d like to order one or two to try instead of doing the minimum. The standard sizes are 7.99 each and the midsize are $8.39 each. Shipping is still going to be about $8 via USPS for one or two (vs. about $10 flat rate for orders up to about 36 pieces). Here’s the link to the original story on Star grips with specs and pricing. Send me a note to order.
Tour Edge HL Offset Driver
Tour Edge makes two different brands of clubs, their premium priced Exotics line and also a Hot Launch line that are game improvement designs that aren’t priced out of this world.
An example is the Hot Launch (HL) Offset driver. It has a heavily weighted heel and an offset design to help those who have trouble slicing and hitting to the right. They have a shallow face to help get the ball airborne and also come in 10.5, 12, and 15 degree lofts. They’re great for slower swingers and are priced at $250 with a 45g-55g (depending on flex) Mitsubishi Fubuki HL lightweight shaft in L, A, R, S, or X flex. I can also build this with the Hiskei Wave shaft for $300 with the shaft upgrade. They also make Hot Launch fairway, hybrids, and irons. I’m a Tour Edge dealer, send me a note to order.
Mitsubishi MMT Putter Concept Shaft
The hot news in putters is the emergence of graphite putter shafts. Players everywhere are seeing the benefits of a composite shaft in their putters and Mitsubishi has come out with a new putter shaft model utilizing their MMT (Metal Mesh Technology) that they introduced in their MMT graphite iron shafts. Most of the new graphite putters shafts are priced at $299+, Mitsubishi MMT’s are priced at $115.
Here’s what they have to say about it:
Solidify your putting consistency with an MMT™ Putter shaft. Now you can carry the strength and feel of Metal Mesh Technology (MMT™) from tee to green. Swing speeds on putts may be slower but the margin for error is nearly none. MMT™ Putter Concept applies a new metal mesh called SPEEDMESH – a MICRO 304 SS 75% lighter and thinner than original Metal Mesh for maximized pliability – to the full length of the shaft to minimize deflection, increase the shaft’s recovery rate and promote a fuller release, helping you to hold your line and hole more putts.
Players report MMT Putter Concept creates a soft feel, and makes a putt struck with a milled putter face feel like it was struck with an insert.
Available in parallel or taper. As of now, only compatible with plumber's neck hosels.
Mitsubishi MMT Putter shafts are 135 grams, 1.6 torque, and $115. .370 parallel and .355 taper. Installation $25 plus grip price and shipping. Send me a note to order.
Hiskei Boyka Driver
The new Hiskei Boyka driver is a winner for those looking for a lightweight (193 g) driver head. I’m building several for players that like to play the maximum USGA playing length of 48” and the lightweight head helps make this possible. I’m matching the standard 46” length Boyka driver with the Hiskei Superlight with the nifty bronze ion graphite shaft that weighs in at 45 grams/4.0 torque. For the longer length drivers I’m building with the Hiskei Wave shaft and a shaft extension. A Graman G55 47” shaft is also a great choice in this head (and the Krank Formula driver).
The price with the Hiskei Superlight Bronze Ion is $350 and $399 with the Hiskei Wave. I can also sell just the components ($199 for the clubhead, $110 for the Superlight, and $150 for the Wave shaft. Send me a note to order and for help choosing the correct flex.
Let’s Get Social
Those that like to argue on social media will be disappointed in my Clubmaker Facebook page. I post new golf equipment info there every so often and you’re invited to post club making questions there. I also have a golf Twitter feed called @golfcast (here). A little more edgy vs. Facebook but I try to keep the subject on golf related topics, Tour, OEM equipment news, and component stuff. I do toss in a little music information and try and keep the political stuff to a bare minimum. I'm considering a TikTok and Instagram feed, too.
