AJ Tech Shaft Follow Up
A quick Clubmaker Report to give an update on my supply of AJ Tech shafts.
I met with supplier and have a box in my possession of maybe 25 different shaft models/flexes. This should make things much easier vs. the first batch or orders.
Most of the shafts are uncut/new but he hasn’t produced shafts for a few years now. Those that play the AJ’s know that nobody has come close to making a lightweight, very low torque shaft that will be close to a Thermotron, Duratron, AJ60 or Z Series for distance and control.
Longtime Clubmaker Report readers know about my love of AJ Tech shafts. They were the first lightweight and low torque graphite shaft made and still have never been matched for making 50 weight (2.6 torque/56 grams) high performance shafts.
Here’s what I have:
AJ60. These are low 60g, 3.0 torque shafts. .335 tip for easy install. No logo but paint is as new. Each has a tag on the butt of the shaft ID’ing the shaft/flex. I have a few firm flex (in-between R and S flex) and a few regular flexes. $100 each until gone. Add $40 for OEM sleeve/install labor.
4060 “Fade to plum” Duratron. These have a really cool red to plum fade paint treatment. They are a very soft senior flex, mid 50 grams and 2.7 torque. If you are a senior with and have a slow swing speed you’ll pick up distance with these, they’re excellent. I’m going to use these to build the new Hiskei driver (see info below). The Hiskei head is lightweight at 195 grams so the shaft will play to a senior flex. It will play to a soft senior flex in OEM club heads. AJ used to brag that Jack Nicholson (the actor) used to play that shaft. He also told me he hot rodded a Gibson guitar for Robbie Krieger of The Doors. When he sensed I didn’t believe him I received a picture of crazy AJ on his couch playing guitar with Robbie Krieger. The 4060 Fade To Plum shaft price is $125 each. Add $40 for OEM sleeve/install labor.
4000 Duratron “TSP” or Titleist Shaft Parallel. These were originally designed with a long parallel tip section and .335 tip diameter (most AJ’s have a slightly oversized tip and taper very quickly) to fit the old Titleist 975D with a long bore thru hosel. The 4000 TSP can be used either in a bore thru driver, in a standard bore driver if you tip trim the shaft 2-3”, or in a fairway wood (with tip trimming). I’ve got a few regular, a few firm in a really cool gold metal flake finish, and a few regular flex in candy apple red. $125 each. Add $40 for OEM sleeve/install labor.
4370 Thermotron 50” Longdrive. Unique 50” long drive design in a firm flex. $125.
Z43. I have (2) firm flex Z43’s in red. 48 grams, 3.0 torque. Sweet shaft. $100 each. Add $40 for OEM sleeve/install labor.
4260 Duratron Red. This is regular flex, mid 50g, 2.8 torque. $125. Add $40 for OEM sleeve/install labor.
I also have some oddball models that are slightly blemished, unpainted, already cut to playing length, etc. that I can discount further for you. If you don’t see the AJ shaft you were looking for above send me a note and I’ll dig around a bit.
Send me a note at if you have questions or to order. Once this batch is gone that’s it for the supply.
New Hiskei Driver Head
Great looking new hi-MOI component head from Hiskei. In 9.5 or 10.5 lofts. 195 grams (shafts will play a bit stiffer in a lightweight head, also can build a bit longer to 45.75”, 46” and up. Fixed hosel (no adjustability). Nice clean look, matt black. I’m building these with the AJ Tech 4060 duratron “fade to plum” shafts mentioned above. Mid 50 grams, 2.8 torque, soft senior flex will play to a “standard” senior flex in this lighter head and will really help to increase distance. $425 assembled. $300 each component head only. Send me a note to order. I can also build with Hiskei Wave shaft in women’s, senior, regular, firm, or stiff flexes.
I found your messages from 3 a.m. this morning. I sent you an email to communicate going forward.
Hi Ryan. I apologize, this is the first note I can find from you. No more 4370's. I do have one odd one. It is logo'd as a 4360 Duratron but is actually a 4370 (the white label on the butt is the actual shaft model on this one). It is also only 44". It is new but has been butt cut to 44". Not sure if that works for you. I'll knock $25 off that one. Are you sure you don't need a more flexible shaft after not playing 20 years? I have some nice 4260 (R flex) TSP shafts. They have a longer parallel section so they fit the bore thru heads. These are a cool looking metallic gold color, really nice. $125 each for those.
